Art Styles | Contemporary Explorations in Pointillism
Pixel perfect.
Join us for a 3-hour (yes—trust us—you’ll want the extra hour!) hands-on painting workshop exploring the technique of pointillism with an au courant approach. This Painterly class will guide you through painting with small dots of blended color to form a larger composition—either concrete or abstract—depending on your personal preferences. Example compositions will be provided to guide the process + stoke your imagination.
-
Pointillism is a painting technique developed by 19th-century neo-impressionist artists where tiny dots of pure color become blended in the viewer's eye at a distance. Each dot adds depth + vibrancy to the artwork, inviting the viewer to step back and marvel at the seamless harmony of the image or pattern they create together. With pointillism, the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.
-
Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886. However, contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Yayoi Kusama have all added their own modern spin on painting with dots.
