Hatching a Masterpiece
Art Styles | Contemporary Explorations in Hatching
Down to Hatch.
Join us for a 2-hour hands-on painting workshop exploring the technique of hatching with an au courant approach. This Painterly class will guide you through the usage of parallel lines and short angular brushstrokes to form a larger composition—either concrete or abstract—depending on your personal preferences. Example compositions will be provided to guide the process + stoke your imagination.
-
Creating a rhythmic pattern of color, hatching breathes life into a work, making the surface pulse with energy + subtle detail. Layered lines of color combine to create shadows, gradients, and forms. Hatching builds depth and texture with deliberate, parallel brushstrokes—no blending here! Stacking these strokes with precision adds to the richness and complexity of the image, turning an otherwise flat canvas into a textured, dimensional work . . . that you may just have to touch.
-
Hatching was a common approach for Vincent Van Gogh, Joan Miro, Paul Gaugin, Henry Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and more artists that you know + love.
