Cubism is an early 20th-century art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Cubism broke away from traditional perspective and representation, instead depicting subjects from multiple angles at once using geometric shapes and fragmented forms. The goal was to show the essence of objects beyond how they appear from a single viewpoint.
Cubism evolved in two phases: Analytical Cubism, which focused on deconstructing objects, and Synthetic Cubism, which introduced simpler shapes, brighter colors, and collage elements.

Join us for a 2-hour, hands-on painting workshop exploring Cubism, an early 20th-century style + art movement in which a single viewpoint perspective is abandoned and multiple angles of an object are depicted simultaneously using simple geometric shapes and interlocking planes. In this Painterly class, we’ll learn about the distinct characteristics that define Cubist works of art and set students loose on a journey of their own to create contemporary Cubist artwork. Example compositions will be provided to guide the process + stoke the imagination.
