Join us for a 2-hour hands-on kid-friendly painting workshop exploring the wonderful world of doodling. This Painterly class will guide you through the creation of an underpainting (aka “a background”) while encouraging free-form doodling atop the underpainting to build a dynamic and bold composition. Example artwork will be provided to guide the process + stoke your imagination.

(Note: While this class is kid-friendly, doodling is not just for kids, so we encourage you to give it a whirl . . . or doodle.)

Remember those little marks you made in your notebooks as a kid? Turns out that you were a doodle artist and probably didn’t know it.
Doodling is a type of drawing that's often aimless and doesn't have a final goal. Doodles can be patterns, marks, colorings, designs, figurative shapes, etc., but are made automatically instead of via prior planning. Doodles are often very powerful creative expressions stemming from our unconscious flow states, and the process of doodling has been shown to boost productivity, creativity, mood, concentration, connections, and more. So, get your doodle on.
Your notebooks. Your kids’ walls. Famous artwork. Pretty much everyone has doodled, including some famous non-artists like Bill Gates, Winston Churchill, Frank Gehry Sylvia Plath, John F. Kennedy, and more. Some well-known doodle artists include Keith Haring + Mr. Doodle.

AGES | All ages welcome but 13+ is recommended to benefit the most from instruction.
PREREQUISITE | None. No prior artistic skill required, either.
ARRIVAL | Please allow an extra 15-30 minutes for mingling to ensure you are settled when instruction begins.
ATTIRE | Heavy-duty canvas aprons are provided for class, but because accidents happen sometimes, we do recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting a tad messy.

RESCHEDULING + CANCELLATION POLICY |72-hour notice is required for a 75% refund of prepaid class bookings; bookings may be transferred to a future class before the 72-hour notice timeframe by contacting events@painterly.co. If cancellation or a request to rebook occurs after 72- hours before the start of class, no refund will be provided regardless of reason (note: this policy enables Painterly to protect our artist instructors, who are directly impacted by last-minute cancellations).
